Gyeonggi Province is launching the nation’s first “Library Signature Scent Contest” to create the Gyeonggi Library, which is scheduled to open in October, together with local residents. In celebration of World Book Day, contest entries will be accepted starting from April 23.
The theme of the contest is a scent that evokes the Gyeonggi Library. Any citizen who wishes to participate can submit an application by June 30.
Relevant forms and details on the contest process can be found on the Gyeonggi Sori website (vog.gg.go.kr).

Gyeonggi Province will select the winning entries through a first internal review, a public preference survey, and a second expert evaluation, with the final announcement scheduled for the end of August. The winning scent will be used as the signature fragrance representing the Gyeonggi Library in its operations.
Park Minkyeong, head of the Library Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, “This contest is an attempt to shape the identity of the Gyeonggi Library as a complex cultural space where residents can experience and interact through various senses, beyond being a simple reading space.” She added, “Just as French writer Marcel Proust recalled happy memories from the past through the scent of madeleines in the so-called ‘Proust phenomenon,’ we hope that all residents will remember their warm moments in the library through its fragrance, and that is the spirit in which we prepared this contest.”
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Library is set to open in October as a climate and environment library preparing for the next 100 years, as well as a lifestyle-friendly library where various generations and cultures can come together.
