The Chungnam Office of Education announced that it held the inauguration ceremony for the 2nd Chungnam Student English Reporters on the afternoon of April 22 at the Education Training Institute, aiming to expand opportunities for students to use English and foster global talent.
The Chungnam Student English Reporters program is designed to expand students' opportunities to use English in a non-competitive manner and to develop their ability to communicate various stories from the educational field in English, in line with the policy direction of shifting from "learning English" to "using English."
The inauguration ceremony was attended by 99 student reporters selected from among students in grades 5 of elementary school to grade 2 of high school, 12 teacher support staff, and about 200 participants including parents.
The 2nd Chungnam Student English Reporters will write English articles reflecting their own perspectives and voices under the guidance of 12 teachers and native English-speaking support staff.
The articles written directly by the students in English will be published worldwide through the online Chungnam Student English Newspaper. Online special editions are scheduled for June, September, and November, while a special print edition will be published in October.
Kim Jicheol, Superintendent of Chungnam Office of Education, stated, "The activities of the 2nd Chungnam Student English Reporters are a valuable opportunity for students to develop not only their writing skills but also their communication abilities and creative expression through real-life experiences using English." He added, "We will continue to expand programs that allow students to learn and use English in enjoyable and meaningful ways."
