Held in Yongmeorigoeul Area
Promoting Consumption of Local Agricultural Products
The 4th Watermelon Play Festival will be held in the Yongmeorigoeul area of Yongan-myeon, Iksan City, North Jeolla Province, from April 26 to 27, 2025.
According to the city on April 22, the Watermelon Play Festival is organized to promote the consumption of local agricultural products and to expand communication between farmers and consumers. The event is hosted and organized by the Iksan Watermelon Research Association (President Yoon Beomyeol), which consists of farmers from Yongan-myeon and Mangseong-myeon.
This year's festival will offer visitors the chance to see and purchase freshly harvested, high-sugar-content watermelons directly from the production site. Various hands-on activities will be available, including planting apple watermelon seedlings, making watermelon punch, creating watermelon facial mist, and horseback riding.
In addition, the festival will feature a watermelon carving exhibition, a watermelon quality contest, and cultural performances such as traditional Korean percussion and dance, as well as a Nanta performance by the Iksan City Arts Troupe. Especially, events open to everyone, such as a watermelon eating contest, a watermelon seed spitting contest, and a singing contest, are expected to add to the fun at the venue.
President Yoon Beomyeol stated, "Despite challenging conditions such as climate change, farmers are doing their best to cultivate high-quality watermelons. We hope you will come to the festival and enjoy Iksan watermelons."
Jung Heon-yul, Mayor of Iksan, said, "I hope this festival will further promote the excellence of Iksan watermelons nationwide. We ask for your continued interest in high-quality Iksan watermelons."
Meanwhile, Iksan watermelons are being shipped from the end of this month and are gaining steady popularity as premium agricultural products, being supplied to large supermarkets. The Watermelon Play Festival, now in its fourth year, is establishing itself as a festival where both farmers and consumers can enjoy agricultural products together.
