162 Tons Provided for Urban Agriculture and Healing Gardens
123 Tons to Be Distributed in the First Half of the Year
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on April 22 that it began full-scale distribution of the resource-circulating soil conditioner 'RE:CO Soil', donated by POSCO E&C, on April 21 to promote healing and urban agriculture.
Previously, on April 7, the city signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with POSCO E&C for technical support related to 'RE:CO Soil', agreeing to cooperate on technology and to receive a total of 162 tons of RE:CO Soil free of charge through the Woorim Welfare Foundation.
'RE:CO Soil' is the first resource-circulating soil conditioner developed in Korea (Patent No. 10-2778241), jointly created by POSCO E&C and Samhwa Greentech. It is an eco-friendly product made by recycling industrial by-products such as coffee grounds and paper pulp. Its environmental improvement effects have been verified, and it is currently being used at POSCO E&C landscaping sites.
The donated RE:CO Soil will be sequentially used until the first half of 2025 for projects such as the creation and operation of school healing gardens and the Gyeonggi-do Dreamjaram Healing Garden Program. A total of 95 tons will be distributed to 11 schools, including Todang Elementary School.
Additionally, as part of the urban agriculture promotion project, 28 tons will be supplied to five locations, including Samsong Village Complex 14, to operate community-based home gardening programs.
The city expects that RE:CO Soil will serve as an important resource for establishing an environmentally friendly urban agriculture foundation and providing residents with opportunities for healthy agricultural experiences.
In particular, technical consulting and employee volunteer activities involving POSCO E&C, Yuldong Elementary School, and Baekyang Elementary School are being highlighted as exemplary cases of public-private cooperation. Through these efforts, students are expected to gain hands-on agricultural experience, enhancing their emotional well-being and ecological sensitivity.
A POSCO E&C representative stated, "RE:CO Soil is an eco-friendly landscaping material that combines technological strength with the potential for resource circulation," adding, "We will continue to support emotional recovery programs for building an urban agriculture foundation in cooperation with Goyang City."
Goyang Special City emphasized, "This donation of resource-circulating RE:CO Soil is a leading model in which companies and local governments collaborate to make tangible contributions to the community and future generations," and added, "We will continue to pursue sustainable development and social responsibility through innovative and eco-friendly projects."
