The Only Recipient in South Jeolla Province...
6 Hundred Million Won in National Funding Over Three Years
Boseong County in South Jeolla Province announced on April 22 that it has been selected as the final recipient of the "Youth Village Creation Project" contest organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
A total of 147 youth organizations from across the country applied for this contest. After the first round of document screening, the second round of on-site inspections, and the third round of in-person evaluations, Boseong County achieved the distinction of being the only area in South Jeolla Province to be selected in the final round.
The "Youth Village Creation Project" aims to support young people seeking new opportunities in the region by helping them start businesses and settle down using local resources. It also seeks to revitalize local communities and address population decline by attracting more young residents. With this selection, Boseong County is expected to accelerate the influx of young people and further invigorate the local community.
The selected organization, "Greenteamosire" (represented by Yong Sujin), is a group of young people from outside the region who voluntarily gathered because of their fondness for Boseong County. Since last year, they have been living in Yeongcheon Village, Hoecheon-myeon, building close cooperative relationships with local residents. In response to the passion of these young people, the village has actively supported them by providing residential and office spaces, as well as offering tea ingredients and sharing cultivation techniques.
During the evaluation process, the innovative planning skills of these young people and their strong collaborative structure with residents received high praise. "Greenteamosire" plans to officially launch its project starting in May 2025, with 600 million won in national funding to be provided over the next three years.
The young participants plan to develop a variety of programs in Yeongcheon Village centered on green tea, the region's specialty product. These include short-term and long-term residency experience programs, the launch of a premium tea subscription service, youth-led village festivals, and the operation of a start-up laboratory. Through these activities, young people will directly participate in exploring the local area and experimenting with job opportunities, with the aim of creating new jobs within the community.
The county intends to use this youth village project as a springboard to actively attract young people and restore local vitality, while accelerating efforts to create a youth-friendly city that is a great place to live.
Kim Cheolwoo, the county governor, stated, "Boseong County's first selection for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Youth Village Creation Project will be a major turning point in strengthening the local youth network and promoting innovative activities." He added, "We will spare no administrative and financial support to ensure that young people can settle and grow in the region with stability."
