The purpose of this project is to transform senior centers from simple shelters into complex spaces that encompass functions of health, social interaction, and welfare. The main areas of focus include improving safety facilities at senior centers, operating health programs, revitalizing social exchanges, and providing customized welfare support.
In particular, a total budget of 850 million won will be concentrated on improving the environment for the safety of seniors. Of this, 350 million won will be used for installing safety bars inside senior centers to prevent falls, and 500 million won will be allocated for maintenance and repair work at aging senior centers. Safety bars are a key facility that directly impacts the mobility and accident prevention for seniors and will be installed in a customized manner according to the situation at each center. The maintenance budget will be used for overall facility improvements, including fixing leaks, repairing damaged floors, and updating outdated electrical systems, in order to create a comfortable and safe environment at the senior centers.
In addition, a variety of customized programs focusing on the physical and mental health of seniors, such as health exercises, dementia prevention education, and nutrition management lectures, will be operated. Various activities to promote intergenerational communication, such as youth volunteer activities and cultural and arts programs, will also be implemented.
Jeon Jinseon, Governor of Yangpyeong County, stated, "Through the Safe Senior Center project, we will do our utmost to ensure that seniors can enjoy their leisure time in a safer and happier environment," adding, "We will continue to provide ongoing support and attention to make Yangpyeong a better place to live."
Meanwhile, Yangpyeong County expects that this project will further enhance the level of welfare for seniors and contribute to the creation of a warm and vibrant local community.
