Groundbreaking for Environmental Maintenance of Undeveloped Road Section
On April 22, Ulju County in Ulsan announced that it will begin full-scale construction of an undeveloped road section near Unyang Eupseong, which had been delayed for five years due to prolonged negotiations.
Starting April 24, Ulju County will launch the 'Ulju Unyang Eupseong Undeveloped Road Section Environmental Maintenance Project' in the Seoburi area of Unyang-eup, with the goal of completing construction by June.
The target site for this project was excluded from the urban planning road construction project promoted in 2020 because it was included in a nationally designated cultural heritage protection zone, leading to delays in negotiations with the National Heritage Administration.
This section has repeatedly experienced flooding and traffic inconvenience due to damaged pavement and poor drainage, and concerns have been raised about damage to the cultural heritage landscape caused by unauthorized parking.
To address these issues, Ulju County engaged in repeated challenges and negotiations over five years, making administrative improvements, and finally obtained final approval from the National Property Administration at the end of last year, allowing the project to break ground.
The maintenance project will target a total road length of 58 meters, aiming to improve the structure and drainage system, as well as systematically enhance the surrounding landscape.
The project aims to prevent damage caused by illegal parking and vehicle traffic within the cultural heritage zone, reduce safety risks associated with the narrow road width, poor alignment, and uneven surfaces, and resolve issues such as water pooling during rainfall and dust generation during dry periods, thereby improving living conditions for residents.
An Ulju County official stated, "With the groundbreaking of this road section, which had been stalled for five years, this project will serve as a meaningful example of resolving a complex administrative challenge that requires both road functionality and cultural heritage preservation." The official added, "We will complete the project safely and quickly to provide tangible improvements in resident convenience and urban landscape."
