Strengthening International Cooperation and Developing Content
Ulsan Mayor Kim Dukyum will lead an overseas delegation to Japan from April 23 to 25 for a three-day visit to promote the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo.
This visit is intended to review preparations for the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo, which is just over three years away, by examining the preparation and operational cases of the ongoing 2025 World Expo in Osaka. The trip also aims to develop content that reflects international trends, strengthen international cooperation, and promote the expo.
The overseas delegation will hold meetings with the Deputy Secretary-General of the Expo Organizing Committee, tour the facilities, and visit the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Osaka.
The first event of the visit will take place at 2:00 p.m. on April 24 at the expo site, where Mayor Kim Dukyum will have a meeting with Ichinoki Manatsu, Deputy Secretary-General of the 2025 World Expo Organizing Committee.
During this meeting, Mayor Kim will introduce the industrial status and characteristics of Ulsan, which serves as the industrial capital of South Korea, and will actively promote the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo, which will be held as a green expo on a reclaimed landfill site.
He also plans to share the operational cases of the 2025 World Expo, including strategies for attracting participating countries, organizing and operating the organizing committee, planning exhibition content, and managing volunteers. In addition, he will propose ways to enhance international exchanges between the two cities.
The delegation will then tour the event site, which covers 155 hectares (1.55 square kilometers), equivalent to the size of 220 soccer fields.
They are scheduled to visit the Ooyane Ring, the symbol of this expo and the world's largest wooden structure, the Forest of Tranquility at the center of the expo, the theme pavilions designed by eight producers, the Korea Pavilion with the participation of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), and the EXPO Hall, among others.
For the final event, at 6:00 p.m., the delegation will visit the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Osaka to promote the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo and request support for exchange and cooperation projects between Ulsan and these cities.
Mayor Kim Dukyum stated, "We will incorporate the experience of this overseas delegation and various outstanding international cases into Ulsan's reality to prepare the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo as the most authentic and unique expo that only Ulsan can host."
The 2025 World Expo is being held on Yumeshima Island in Osaka, Japan, under the theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives," with 160 countries participating. The expo runs from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
