Seonghwa Lim, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Visits Chipyeong-dong Signboard Fall Accident Site

"Systematic Safety Measures Needed for Accident Prevention"

Seonghwa Lim, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council representing Gwangcheon-dong, Yudeok-dong, Chipyeong-dong, Sangmu 1-dong, and Dongcheon-dong, announced on April 21 that she recently visited the site in Chipyeong-dong where a signboard fall accident occurred.

The accident site is near Sangmu Outlet, where a loosened outdoor signboard fell, prompting safety measures in the surrounding area. Fortunately, there were no casualties. Property damage and the cause of the accident are currently under investigation.

Lim stated, "The accident occurred in a core commercial area of Sangmu District with heavy pedestrian traffic, and it could have easily led to a major casualty incident. In Chipyeong-dong, Dongcheon-dong, and Pungam-dong, where commercial buildings are concentrated, there are many protruding signboards. It is crucial to accurately determine the cause and implement thorough follow-up measures to prevent this from escalating into a serious accident."

She added, "With the rainy season approaching this year and the increasing risk of natural disasters due to frequent typhoons caused by abnormal weather, the risk is higher than ever. To ensure that Seo-gu residents do not feel anxious, it is necessary to establish systematic safety measures for accident prevention, including excessively strengthening preemptive inspections."

Lim has also raised the issue of traffic inconvenience caused by the construction of Central Xi Apartments in Sangmu 1-dong, which has been a consistent source of complaints. In particular, she received and addressed complaints regarding the installation of a median strip in front of the main entrance of the new apartment, which made it impossible for residents of nearby houses and apartments to access their homes. As a result, the traffic signal system was recently improved.

Lim reaffirmed her commitment, stating, "I will remain close to the community and accessible at all times to promptly respond to residents' requests. With humility, I will continue to serve the community in a way that residents can be proud of."
