Seodaemun-gu Awards 200 Million Won in Scholarships to 95 Students Using "Cafe Waterfall" Profits

Twice the Scale Compared to the First Half of Last Year
Cafe Waterfall Reaches 2.01 Million Cumulative Visitors

Seodaemun-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Sungheon) announced on the 21st that it recently selected and supported recipients of the "2025 First Half Cafe Waterfall Happiness Scholarship" to foster local talent.

The district has been creating the Youth Hope Dream Fund using profits from "Cafe Waterfall" (262-24 Yeonhui-ro), which opened on April 1, 2023, across from Hongje Waterfall in Seodaemun, and has been awarding Happiness Scholarships to middle and high school students as well as university students.

Last year, the district provided a total of 200 million won in scholarships to 60 students (20 university students and 40 middle and high school students) in the first half, and to 54 students (23 university students and 31 middle and high school students) in the second half. In the first half of this year, 201 million won was awarded to 95 students, including 42 middle and high school students and 53 university students. This amount is double the 100 million won awarded in the first half of last year.

The scholarship amount per person is 3 million won for university students and 1 million won for middle and high school students. The district plans to maintain the same scale (200 million won) for scholarships in the second half of this year.

Eligible recipients include students who attend schools located in Seodaemun-gu or have been registered residents in the district for over one year. Students facing financial difficulties, those who have contributed to the community through volunteer work or exemplary activities both inside and outside school, and students born in the district or graduates of local schools who have enhanced Seodaemun-gu’s reputation in fields such as culture, arts, or sports are also eligible.

"Cafe Waterfall," the first Seoul-style waterfront emotional city cafe, is notable for allowing visitors to enjoy views of a waterfall. Since its opening, it has established itself as a leading global landmark in Seoul, with cumulative visitors reaching approximately 2.01 million.

District Mayor Lee Sungheon, who has expressed his intention from the opening to return operating profits to the community in the form of scholarships, stated, "I will continue to make efforts to provide the Happiness Scholarship so that our district’s future talent can devote themselves to their studies."
