The Gwangju Regional Veterans Affairs Office announced on the 21st that it paid respects at the gravesites of independence patriots in the Haenam area to commemorate the 80th anniversary of liberation.
The memorial ceremony was held that day at the gravesite of Chun Boyeo in Yeonho-ri, Hwangsan-myeon, Haenam-gun, with participants including Chun Jungsik, the grandson of Chun Boyeo, Kim Seokki, head of the Gwangju Regional Veterans Affairs Office, Lee Seongok, chairman of the Haenam County Council, as well as the head of the Welfare Policy Division of Haenam County, the head of the Regional Cooperation Division of the Mokpo Employment and Labor Office, and the head of Hwangsan-myeon.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs has been conducting year-round visits to the gravesites of independence patriots starting this year, in order to honor the memory of patriotic forebears and carry on the spirit of independence, through inclusive memorial ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of liberation. In line with this, the Gwangju Regional Veterans Affairs Office is also visiting and paying respects at the gravesites of independence patriots in the region.
Kim Seokki, head of the Gwangju Regional Veterans Affairs Office, stated, "In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of liberation, we will continue to create opportunities like this to fully honor and take responsibility for all heroes who sacrificed and dedicated themselves for the nation, realizing 'living veterans affairs in daily life, veterans affairs for all.'
