On the 21st, Seongnam City held the "Phase 3 Kickoff Meeting for the Expansion of Robot-Based Resident Life Facility Care and Education Services" at Sanseong Nuri, City Hall, where the achievements of the project to date were shared and discussions were held on strategies for further activation and improvement of operations.
The "Smart Village Dissemination and Expansion Project" is an initiative that supplies smart devices to facilities such as welfare centers and senior citizen centers, which are primarily used by vulnerable groups, enabling anyone to easily experience and utilize digital technology.
By the end of this year, Seongnam City plans to install an additional 589 smart devices?including cognitive training robots and video conferencing systems?at 96 welfare centers and senior citizen centers, and to operate 900 online and offline education programs.
The main services provided include: leisure and welfare services for seniors using ICT; cognitive training using robots; operation of smart senior citizen centers and welfare centers; autonomous disinfection management services; and educational and care services for children utilizing robots.
In particular, the cognitive training robots remotely measure the health status of seniors and provide customized content to support brain activity. In addition, health promotion programs using virtual sports experiences and smart tables, as well as coding robot classes and virtual sports experiences for children, are also being offered.
At welfare centers, in-person education programs for seniors are provided, while at senior citizen centers, non-face-to-face education is offered using video conferencing systems, allowing a variety of leisure and welfare education services to be accessed without restrictions of time or place.
Furthermore, the project is expected to generate a dual effect of strengthening digital capabilities and creating jobs, as the "IT Senior Friends Task Force," formed in connection with the senior job creation program, visits senior citizen centers to provide one-on-one training on how to use robots and other smart devices.
A Seongnam City official stated, "We will actively incorporate the various opinions gathered through this meeting to enhance the quality and satisfaction of our education services. Going forward, we will continue to expand care and education services utilizing ICT technology, working toward realizing a smart welfare city where no one is left behind."
Meanwhile, Seongnam City was finally selected for the "Expansion of Robot-Based Resident Life Facility Care and Education Services" public contest by the Ministry of Science and ICT in 2022, and has been implementing the project through 2025. Last year, the city installed 801 smart devices at 157 locations and operated 330 online and offline leisure and welfare education services.
