Seongsan District of Changwon Special City Launches Pre-Event Hygiene Inspections of Food Service Establishments

Preparations Underway for the Upcoming National Sports Competition for Students with Disabilities
and the National Youth Sports Competition

Seongsan District of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, will conduct a pre-inspection for the safety management of food service establishments for three weeks starting April 21, in preparation for the 19th National Sports Competition for Students with Disabilities and the 54th National Youth Sports Competition, both scheduled to be held in May.

This inspection will target 73 food service establishments located around sports venues and busy areas that will be frequented by athletes and visitors coming to Changwon for the competitions. The inspections will be carried out through joint public-private efforts as well as internal checks.


The main focus areas of the inspection include: hygienic management of cooking facilities and utensils; compliance with personal hygiene requirements such as wearing sanitary hats and masks and undergoing health checkups; adherence to preservation standards for refrigerated and frozen foods; prevention of food reuse; storage and use of products past their expiration date or without proper labeling; and food poisoning prevention education. These measures aim to prevent food safety incidents in advance.


Kim Su-yoon, head of the Culture and Hygiene Division, stated, "With the two major sports competitions taking place in May, we will conduct hygiene inspections of food service establishments and provide customer service training to ensure that athletes and visitors can stay safely and comfortably in our city. We will make every effort to proactively prevent major food safety incidents such as mass food poisoning."
