On April 21, the city of Osan in Gyeonggi Province announced that the first married couple has emerged from participants in its 'SOLOman Osan' matchmaking program for single men and women.
'SOLOman Osan' is a program initiated by Lee Kwonjae, mayor of Osan, based on the idea that marriage is a major concern in a young city with an average age of 41.1 years. Last year, the city held this event three times for 120 unmarried men and women aged 23 to 39, who were either Osan residents or worked in Osan.
Through programs such as dating coaching and wine parties, 33 couples have successfully matched so far, and according to the city, the first married couple met at the inaugural event in September last year and got married after dating for about six months.
The wedding, held on April 19, was attended by Mayor Lee and city officials. Mayor Lee stated, "It is a great honor for the city not only to have fostered meaningful connections through the SOLOman Osan program, but also to see the birth of the first married couple. We will continue to develop good policies to help young people in Osan lead happy lives."
The city plans to hold the SOLOman Osan event again in the second half of this year. A city official said, "We will provide opportunities for young people to meet and encourage marriage, so that more young men and women can form meaningful relationships."
