The police announced that they are investigating 14 individuals on suspicion of distributing deepfake videos related to Lee Jae Myung, the presidential primary candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.

Park Hyunsoo, acting commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, stated at a regular press briefing on the 21st, "The camp of candidate Lee has filed complaints against 17 people in 9 cases, including violations of the Public Official Election Act. Of these, 6 cases involving 14 individuals related to deepfake videos are being investigated by the Seoul Cyber Investigation Unit, while the remaining 3 cases involving 3 individuals are being handled by the Public Crime Investigation Unit."
The candidate's camp submitted a criminal complaint to the police on the 16th against YouTubers for distributing deepfake videos. The camp stated, "Last week, we issued a strong warning against the dissemination of false and manipulated information, including deepfakes. Nevertheless, we have confirmed that maliciously produced deepfake videos containing defamatory content about the candidate and other false and manipulated information continue to be distributed."
