The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on April 21 that they have identified a prime suspect in the fire at the Bongcheon-dong apartment and are currently pursuing the individual.
The police have urgently deployed investigators, including detectives, from both the local and neighboring police stations to determine the circumstances of the suspected arson and to identify the tool used to start the fire.
Authorities are also investigating whether the same suspect is responsible for other recent fires at nearby apartments in Bongcheon-dong.
The police stated, "The device used to spray the flames is currently unidentified, but it is presumed to be a pesticide sprayer, and we are working to confirm this."
In addition, all 177 members of the local mobile patrol unit have been deployed to secure the area around the scene and assist in apprehending the suspect.
Meanwhile, the fire, which broke out at the apartment at 8:17 a.m. on the same day, resulted in one death and five injuries.
