Targeting 60 Small Restaurants Under 100 Square Meters
Gwangju Bukgu District is launching an initiative to improve the sanitary conditions of outdated restaurant kitchens.
According to the district office on April 21, the 'Sanitary Environment Improvement Project for Outdated Kitchen Facilities' will be implemented to prevent kitchen fires and create a cleaner dining environment. The program will support 60 local general restaurants that have been registered for business for at least six months.
The district will provide up to 850,000 KRW to cover cleaning costs for ventilation systems, cooking equipment, and food ingredient refrigerators. Starting in June, professional service providers will visit the restaurants to offer cleaning services, along with training on food storage practices.
Eligibility will be determined based on a comprehensive evaluation that includes restaurant size (under 100 square meters), participation in the hygiene rating system or designation as an exemplary restaurant, and whether the establishment is located in a specialized food street. Applications can be submitted by visiting, mailing, or faxing the required documents as outlined in the notice on the Bukgu District Office website.
Moon In, the head of the district office, stated, "This project aims to improve the sanitary conditions of small restaurants that have difficulty accessing professional cleaning services, thereby creating a safer and more reassuring dining environment. We hope for active participation."
