Realmeter Poll Shows 50.2% Support
for Lee Jae-myung in Next Presidential Candidate Suitability Survey
A recent public opinion poll showed that support for Lee Jae-myung, former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has surpassed 50%. In a hypothetical three-way race scenario involving candidates from the People Power Party and the Reform New Party, Lee was also found to be significantly ahead, securing a majority of support.
According to a poll released on April 21 by Realmeter (commissioned by Energy Economy News and conducted from April 16 to 18 among 1,504 voters aged 18 or older nationwide via 100% wireless automated response, with a response rate of 6.6% and a margin of error of ±2.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level), Lee, who is currently running in the Democratic Party’s primary, ranked first in the “next presidential candidate suitability” survey. He scored 50.2%, up 1.4 percentage points from last week’s poll.
Among those running in the People Power Party’s presidential primary, Kim Moonsoo, former Minister of Employment and Labor, rose by 1.3 percentage points to 12.2%. Han Donghoon, former People Power Party leader, increased by 2.3 percentage points to 8.5%. Hong Joonpyo, former mayor of Daegu, also rose by 2.3 percentage points to 7.5%. Na Kyungwon, a member of the National Assembly, newly included in the poll, recorded 4.0%. Ahn Cheolsoo, another lawmaker, rose by 1.3 percentage points to 3.7%. In this survey, support for ruling bloc candidates was dispersed after Han Ducksoo, acting president and prime minister, was removed from the list of candidates.
Realmeter analyzed, “All People Power Party contenders remain in the single-digit to low double-digit range, clearly showing both dispersion and a lack of expansion within the candidate pool.”
In a suitability poll limited to People Power Party candidates, Kim Moonsoo recorded 18.6%, Han Donghoon 14.9%, Hong Joonpyo 12.4%, Ahn Cheolsoo 9.6%, and Na Kyungwon 6.4%.
Among Democratic Party candidates, with the party’s primary still ongoing, Lee Jae-myung led with 53.4%. Kim Dongyeon, governor of Gyeonggi Province, followed with 17.3%, and Kim Kyungsoo, former governor of South Gyeongsang Province, recorded 5.7%.
In hypothetical three-way matchups, Lee Jae-myung also led. When Lee Jae-myung, still in the Democratic Party primary, faced off against Kim Moonsoo, Han Donghoon, or Hong Joonpyo, with Lee Junseok of the Reform New Party as a fixed candidate, Lee Jae-myung received 54.2%, 54.6%, and 54.6% support, respectively, in each scenario, maintaining a majority.
In the party support survey, the Democratic Party’s approval rating rose by 2.0 percentage points from last week to 48.7%. The People Power Party dropped by 0.2 percentage points to 32.9%, while the Cho Kuk Innovation Party fell by 1.4 percentage points to 4.2%.
