Strengthening Competitiveness of Traditional Markets and Neighborhood Supermarkets
through Expansion of Joint Purchasing

The Small Enterprise and Market Service announced on April 21 that it has signed a business agreement with the Korea Merchant Association (KMA) and the Korea Supermarket Cooperative Federation (KSCF) to expand sales channels for outstanding products from traditional markets and small and medium-sized logistics providers.

This agreement was established to share the human and material resources of the three organizations, with the goal of expanding sales channels for outstanding products from traditional markets and small and medium-sized logistics providers, as well as revitalizing small businesses and traditional markets.

Going forward, the organizations will cooperate on the following initiatives: discovering and promoting outstanding products from small businesses and traditional markets; expanding sales channels for these products; and revitalizing small-scale distribution by utilizing joint wholesale logistics centers and a digital integrated logistics system.

To this end, the Small Enterprise and Market Service will focus on supporting the development and promotion of outstanding products from traditional markets and small businesses. It also plans to create an environment where products from traditional markets can be sold at neighborhood supermarkets and vice versa, by expanding joint purchasing based on the digital integrated logistics system it plans to establish.

The Korea Merchant Association will work to establish quality standards for the discovery and development of outstanding products from traditional markets, and encourage participation in joint logistics, leveraging cooperation among its 17 provincial and metropolitan chapters. The Korea Supermarket Cooperative Federation will support the verification and distribution planning of outstanding products from traditional markets, as well as joint logistics, through its regional cooperatives.

SungHyo Park, Chairman of the Small Enterprise and Market Service, stated, "Through this agreement, we expect that traditional markets and neighborhood supermarkets will be able to coexist, discover outstanding products, and expand sales channels." He added, "We will continue to develop a variety of measures through ongoing collaboration so that both traditional markets and neighborhood supermarkets can grow together."
