Expansion of Global Education, Establishment of a Future-Oriented Education System, and More
On April 21, Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Heeyoung), announced its commitment to advancing three key initiatives for the future of education in the district: expanding global education, establishing a future-oriented education system, and improving educational infrastructure. The district aims to transform itself into a 'global education hub' through these focused efforts.
The final report meeting of the Yongsan-gu Global and Future Education Development Research Project held last February. Provided by Yongsan-gu.
The district recently completed the 'Global Education Promotion and Future Education Development Research Project' and, based on its findings, presented a future education development strategy reflecting these priorities.
The research focused on analyzing the educational environment, establishing a future vision, and proposing feasible new projects. As a result, Yongsan-gu developed a mid- to long-term development plan for expanding global education, establishing a future education system, and improving educational infrastructure. The district plans to implement actionable tasks in stages, starting with those that are immediately feasible.
To create a sustainable global learning environment, Yongsan-gu will designate schools specializing in global education and develop customized educational programs tailored to each student's level and interests. The district also plans to create multi-purpose spaces such as a Global Education Support Center and smart libraries, providing students with more opportunities to naturally learn about and engage with the world.
The district will also develop a community-linked education model. Reflecting the area's unique characteristics?such as a high concentration of multicultural families, foreign residents, and 49 embassies?Yongsan-gu will expand educational support for multicultural and foreign students. The district plans to enhance practical foreign language and cultural education programs, such as English experience centers and foreign language classrooms, by connecting local human resources including embassy staff and native-speaking instructors.
Yongsan-gu will also promote educational innovation to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution era. The district plans to introduce smart education systems based on artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, activate project-based learning (PBL), and expand STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education to strengthen students' creative problem-solving skills and digital competencies.
For successful educational innovation, Yongsan-gu will establish a close cooperation system among administrative agencies, educational institutions, and the private sector. All parties will participate in the entire process?from policy formulation to implementation and evaluation?while ongoing research and consultation will be conducted in parallel.
District Mayor Park Heeyoung stated, "Through this research, Yongsan-gu has established a strategic foundation to become a global education city. We will continue to actively discover and promote unique educational policies tailored to Yongsan by maintaining ongoing communication with the educational field, and we will develop into a leading city for nurturing future-oriented talent."
