Starting on April 21, Gyeonggi Province began accepting applications for the 'Artist Opportunity Income' program.

The Artist Opportunity Income is an arts policy introduced by Gyeonggi Province in 2023. It aims to provide fair compensation for the social value generated by artistic activities, thereby supporting artists' continued creative work and expanding opportunities for residents to enjoy arts and culture in their daily lives.

Eligible applicants are artists aged 19 or older who hold a valid certificate of artistic activity, reside in one of the 28 cities and counties in the province (excluding Yongin, Goyang, and Seongnam), and have a recognized personal income at or below 120% of the median income.

However, in accordance with the conditions for establishing a new social security system, recipients of the 2025 Arts Activity Preparation Fund supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism are excluded from eligibility.

Gyeonggi Province will select recipients after verifying applicants' residency, income and assets, and eligibility for exclusion in each city and county. Selected artists will receive a total of 1.5 million won per year, distributed in two installments in June?July and September.

Kwak Sunmi, Director of Arts Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Now in its third year, the Artist Opportunity Income recognizes artists as key contributors to social value, enhances residents' artistic literacy, and serves as a foundation for enriching lives. In particular, with Suwon City newly participating this year and the inclusion of emerging artists who are excluded from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Arts Activity Preparation Fund, we expect even more artists to benefit from Gyeonggi Province's Artist Opportunity Income."
