During the MBC 100-Minute Debate that evening, Kim stated, "We need to move toward the Seventh Republic," and emphasized, "It is necessary to shorten the presidential term to align it with the general election."
Lee responded, "I was unable to keep my promises because I did not become president," and explained, "There was strong opposition from the ruling party to electoral law reform." In response, Kim pointed out, "It is difficult to agree with that," and added, "It was our duty to make efforts for political reform from our respective positions."
