Jeollanam-do, Land of Flavor and Style... How About Traveling by Bicycle?

Goheung and Haenam Selected for the First Regional Bicycle Travel Promotion Project
Jeollanam-do to Foster Bicycle Tourism and Boost the Local Economy

Jeollanam-do, Land of Flavor and Style... How About Traveling by Bicycle?

On April 18, Jeollanam-do announced that Goheung-gun and Haenam-gun have been selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's first-ever "Regional Bicycle Travel Promotion Project" public contest.

The Regional Bicycle Travel Promotion Project is a grant program designed to reflect the recent increase in demand for outdoor and leisure activities. By linking bicycle paths with local tourism resources, the project aims to foster a bicycle travel culture that everyone can enjoy and to revitalize local tourism and the economy.

From the early stages of the contest, Jeollanam-do worked closely with Goheung and Haenam to enhance the quality of their project proposals. The province also accompanied private sector experts during on-site evaluations, actively highlighting the appeal of Goheung and Haenam's bicycle paths and tourism resources, as well as Jeollanam-do's vision for sustainable tourism, thereby contributing to the final selection.

Goheung-gun has established two themed courses through the "Blue Marine & Star Road Bicycle Tour" project. The "Blue Marine Course" follows the beautiful coastal scenery of Sorokdo and Geogeum Bridge, while the "Star Road Course" connects the Space Launch Observatory and Palyong Bridge, among others.

This is expected to offer a new travel experience as the nation's only bicycle travel content that combines natural scenery with an aerospace theme. There are also plans to operate KTX-linked packages for tourists from the Seoul metropolitan area.

Haenam-gun will operate an experiential travel program called "Recover Daily Life through Travel: Haenam Bicycle Mission Tour," which provides incentives to participants who complete at least three out of a total of eleven bicycle paths and post travel reviews on social media. The program will include a two-night, three-day course featuring major tourist attractions, food, and accommodations, and the county plans to actively recruit participants.

Both regions plan to fully launch their programs after May, set against the beautiful scenery of southern Korea, and it is expected that both local residents and tourists will be able to enjoy them together.

Shim Woojeong, head of the Tourism Division of Jeollanam-do, stated, "This achievement is the result of our ongoing efforts to discover and manage Jeollanam-do's tourism resources." He added, "We will continue to do our best to develop and support sustainable content that links bicycle infrastructure with tourism resources."
