Gwangju Office of Education Launches 10-Year Project to Nurture Nobel Scientists

Everyday and Popularized Science Education
Nurturing Global Scientific Talent

The Gwangju Office of Education is launching the "Nobel Science Project" with the goal of nurturing world-class scientific talent capable of winning a Nobel Prize in science within the next 10 years.


According to the Gwangju Office of Education on April 18, more than 300 participants, including principals of elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as science teachers, gathered at the Gwangju Institute for Creativity and Convergence Education the previous day for the "2025 Ambitious Nobel+On Gwangju Science Education Proclamation Ceremony" to share the project's vision.

"Ambitious Nobel+On" is designed to spark students' interest in science in their daily lives and to foster their inquiry and communication skills. The initiative will focus on four main areas?revitalizing science education in schools, popularizing science education, cultivating global leaders, and sharing achievements?through a total of 33 programs.


In particular, a variety of programs, such as the "To the World, To the Future, Path of Nobel Scientists" overseas science camp, the advanced teaching aids library, and science-focused weeks, are expected to stimulate students' creativity and scientific thinking.


At the event, congratulatory video messages from world-renowned scientists from Gwangju, including Professor Baek Minkyoung of Seoul National University and Professor Cho Sangyeon of Harvard University, were shown. In addition, Professor Cho Sukkyung of KENTECH delivered a special lecture on "Science Communication."


Superintendent Lee Jungseon stated, "We will nurture future-oriented scientific talent equipped with inquiry, communication, and global competitiveness, and raise Nobel Prize-winning scientists who will inspire the world."
