Goryeong County Selected for "Welfare Check-In Postal Service Project" for Second Consecutive Year

Goryeong County in North Gyeongsang Province has been selected for the second consecutive year for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Eup-Myeon-Dong Smart Welfare and Safety Service Improvement Model Development Support Project (Welfare Check-In Postal Service Project)."

With a total project budget of 75 million won, Goryeong County has the largest budget among the 31 local governments participating nationwide, representing an increase of 37 million won compared to last year.

This project targets single-person households at risk of welfare crises, such as solitary deaths and social isolation. Postal workers regularly visit these households to deliver welfare service information and "Love Parcels" (essential goods packages), checking on their well-being during each visit.

Currently, Goryeong County is continuing the 2024 project by allocating its own budget to provide ongoing check-in services. In May, the county plans to sign a business agreement with the Goryeong Post Office and expand the number of beneficiary households from 125 to 175, thereby broadening the scope of the project.

County Governor Lee Namcheol stated, "Being selected for this project for two consecutive years is a significant achievement in welfare. We will do our utmost to proactively identify socially isolated households and establish a robust welfare safety net so that not a single neighbor in our community is left behind."
