Sijimedtec Launches Global Production Base for Implant CDMO

Groundbreaking for New Factory in Uijeongbu

Sijimedtec announced on the 18th that it has begun construction of a new factory to secure a production base capable of responding to global customer demand.

Sijimedtec Launches Global Production Base for Implant CDMO Yu Hyun-seung, CEO of Sigimedtec, is delivering a congratulatory speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new factory in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, on the 11th. Sigimedtec

The new factory, to be established in Yonghyeon Industrial Complex, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi Province, is planned to cover a site area of 11,321㎡ and a total floor area of 2,299㎡. Through the new factory, Sijimedtec aims to expand its production facilities and advance its production system, expecting to increase the annual production volume of orthopedic metal implant products from the current 200,000 units to over 600,000 units, approximately a 300% increase. Additionally, the company will introduce mass production facilities for patient-customized 3D printing to strengthen precise and efficient production of patient-specific medical devices and continuously enhance its competitiveness in the global market.

This new factory is likely to serve as a production base and strategic infrastructure capable of responding to global customer demand, linked to Sijimedtec’s mid- to long-term strategy of contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) business in the spinal and dental implant fields. Based on past OEM experience with global medical device companies such as Zimmer Biomet and LDR, the company has established a foundation to provide customer-tailored production services. It is expected that these capabilities will be implemented in a more systematic and expanded form through the new factory.

Furthermore, Sijimedtec plans to establish a CDMO subsidiary in the future to build a foundry-type contract manufacturing platform targeting design-centered companies, non-manufacturing companies with hospital networks, and marketing-focused global companies. By gradually applying advanced manufacturing systems such as automated equipment integrated with sophisticated production systems and artificial intelligence (AI), the company aims to enhance its ability to respond to customer-tailored production and improve quality competitiveness.

Cooperation with Uijeongbu-si is also anticipated. Earlier, in March last year, Uijeongbu-si signed a business agreement for advanced industry promotion with Sijimedtec’s parent company, Sijibio, a bio-regenerative medicine specialist, agreeing to cooperate on expanding bio and medical device production facilities within the industrial complex and hiring local talent.

Yoo Hyun-seung, CEO of Sijimedtec, said, "This new factory is the starting point for Sijimedtec to leap forward as a global medical device champion with superior technology and profitability. We will transform from a manufacturing-centered structure to a 'total medical solution company' combining advanced technology and customized solutions, and strengthen our competitiveness in the global market focusing on future business strategies such as establishing a CDMO subsidiary for spinal and dental implants."
