The Ulsan Institute of Health and Environment will conduct inspections until April 30 to check whether health functional foods distributed in the region meet standards and specifications, ahead of Family Month in May.
The inspection targets are health functional foods that are popular among consumers and see increased advertising and sales as gifts, such as red ginseng, probiotics, and omega-3 products.
The inspection items include the suitability of nutritional content and functional ingredients, as well as contamination indicators such as coliform bacteria.
An official from the institute stated, "We will do our best to conduct swift and accurate pre-inspections so that health functional foods, whose consumption increases during Family Month, can be distributed safely."
Last year, all 122 products tested?including vitamins, red ginseng, omega-3, milk thistle extract, and coenzyme Q10?met the required standards and specifications.
