Mayor Kim Dong-geun: "Creating a City Where Youth Stay... Establishing an Environment for Future Growth"

Uijeongbu City to Actively Promote 47 Youth Policy Projects Across Three Sectors
Building a Policy Foundation to Expand Youth Independence and Participation and Improve Settlement Conditions

Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) has finalized the '2025 Uijeongbu City Youth Policy Implementation Plan' and will actively promote 47 projects across three sectors to transform the city into a place where youth stay and take on challenges, rather than leave. This is aimed at making Uijeongbu a city where young people remain and challenge themselves, not one they abandon.

According to Uijeongbu City on the 17th, this implementation plan is a mid- to long-term action plan established based on the 'Youth Basic Act' and the 'Uijeongbu City Youth Basic Ordinance.' It includes various policies to guarantee practical youth participation in policymaking, improve the quality of life for young people, and strengthen their independence and capabilities within the region.

The youth policies to be implemented this year are divided into three sectors: Participation & Opportunity, Welfare & Culture, and Jobs & Housing. In the Participation & Opportunity sector, 10 tasks will be pursued, including ▲operation of the Youth Policy Committee ▲support for youth councils ▲promotion of the youth autonomous budget system ▲creation of youth cultural spaces ▲operation of the Youth Center Youth Sympathy Space ▲support for youth club activities ▲hosting Youth Day events ▲awarding the Youth of the Year prize ▲operation of the participation points system ▲support for software purchase costs.

Through these efforts, opportunities for youth social participation will be expanded, and the cultural and communication foundation will be strengthened to support autonomous activities. Additionally, the plan aims to guarantee youth autonomy and rights, supporting various self-led activities to enhance pride.

In the Welfare & Culture sector, 17 tasks will be pursued, including ▲youth basic income ▲self-reliance support settlement funds ▲safety packages for single female households ▲youth culture and arts pass ▲street performances ▲mental health promotion ▲support boxes for single youth households ▲pilot projects for child-rearing expenses support. The plan also includes life-oriented projects such as the Gyeonggi Pass and support for eco-friendly agricultural products to assist youth independence, cultural enjoyment, and mental stability.

In the Jobs & Housing sector, 20 tasks will be pursued, including housing stability support such as ▲youth monthly rent and deposit loan interest support ▲safe lease contract services ▲establishment of a youth job platform through industry-academia cooperation ▲creation of a startup support center ▲selection of good youth stores linked to local markets ▲labor attorney vouchers for youth workers ▲employment cost support. These effective policies aim to improve the quality of life for young people and encourage them to settle in the region.

Uijeongbu City emphasized that this plan is not merely about policy implementation but focuses on transforming the structure so that youth directly participate as the main agents of policy. The city plans to strengthen collaboration among related departments centered on the dedicated youth policy department and enhance effectiveness through policy evaluations and feedback.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, "The change to make Uijeongbu a city where youth challenge themselves and settle down, rather than leave, has begun. We will expand practical support policies tailored to the perspectives of young people so that they can grow independently and create an environment where they can envision the future of the city together."
