Monthly Lectures at Nam-gu Public Libraries from May to November

Gwangju Nam-gu: "Enjoy a Nighttime Humanities Walk at the Public Library"

Gwangju Nam-gu (District Mayor Kim Byungnae) announced on the 16th that it will operate the "Humanities Night Walk" program to promote the revival of humanities and create a people-centered, happy community.


This Humanities Night Walk program will be held at public libraries in the district from the 22nd of this month to November 25, on the fourth Tuesday and second Friday of each month.


The program will be held a total of eight times, and as the district office is actively pursuing policies to establish a city of humanities and popularize humanities, eight leading experts in various fields will participate as lecturers.


The first lecture, taking place on the 22nd, will feature lawyer Park Junyoung. As the real-life protagonist of the movie "New Trial," which is based on an actual case, he will communicate with Nam-gu residents under the theme "Coexistence - The Background and Inside Story of the Case." Jeong Jin-ho, author of the Bologna Ragazzi Award-winning book "Look Up," will visit Nam-gu on Tuesday, July 9. This session is specially designed to engage in conversations with children at their level, in line with Children's Day.


In the field of science, Professor Kwak Jaesik from Soongsil Cyber University will give a lecture on June 24 on the topic of "Basic Knowledge and Latest Trends in Climate Change." He is known for his fascinating topics and outstanding speaking skills, actively appearing on various broadcasting stations, and has a diverse background as an SF novelist and more.


On July 22, current elementary school teacher Ok Hyojin will share various stories under the theme "How Do We Make Money?" He has created a sensation by posting YouTube videos about the realities of economic education in Korea and various stories from elementary school classrooms.


Additionally, on August 26 and September 23, Professor Shin Byungju from Konkuk University’s Department of History and Lee Jungmo, former director of the National Gwacheon Science Museum, will respectively discuss "Recruiting Talents in the Era of King Sejong" and "Nevertheless, We Must Survive on Earth." Professor Shin is an authority in the field of Joseon Dynasty thought and culture, while former director Lee Jungmo is leading the popularization of science as a Science Creativity Ambassador.


Professor Jo Sookkyung from Korea Institute of Energy Technology and Professor Kim Hyungseok from Chonnam National University Medical School’s Department of Forensic Medicine will join the Humanities Night Walk course on October 28 and November 25, respectively.


A district official said, "This is a golden opportunity to meet the nation's top experts once a month," and added, "We are recruiting participants for each session, so residents who wish to participate should frequently check the Nam-gu Integrated Library website."
