Kwon Seong-dong: "If the Democrats Want to Impeach Acting President Han, Go Ahead, There Will Be Public Judgment"

Regarding Han Deok-su’s Candidacy:
“I Cannot Silence the Lawmakers”

Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, said on the 16th regarding the Democratic Party of Korea's failure to decide on the impeachment of Acting President and Prime Minister Han Deok-su, "If you want to impeach, then impeach," adding, "There will be a stern judgment from the people."

After attending a constitutional amendment debate hosted by People Power Party lawmaker Kim Min-jeon at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in the afternoon, Kwon told reporters, "The Democratic Party should stop toying with the impeachment of Acting President Han and make a swift decision."

Kwon pointed out, "The Democratic Party received a cold evaluation from the Constitutional Court regarding the impeachment attempts excluding the president," adding, "The impeachment attempts were judged to violate the constitution and laws, and the impeachment itself was deemed unconstitutional."

Earlier, Han Min-soo, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, told reporters after the Supreme Council meeting, "Nothing has been decided yet" regarding the impeachment of Acting President Han, adding, "Discussions are still ongoing."

Regarding the ongoing speculation within the party about Acting President Han's candidacy, Kwon said, "How can I stop many lawmakers from speaking? I neither have the authority nor the ability to do so."

He added, "Now that the primary candidates have been confirmed and the official race has begun, I expect that the focus will shift to the primary election, with public opinion and media coverage centered on the excitement of the race."
