Hanwoo Genetic Testing to Be Conducted Until May 9
The Special Judicial Police Team of Hongseong County, Chungnam Province, announced on the 16th that it will conduct a focused crackdown on the distribution of illegal and substandard livestock products until May 9.
During this inspection period, the county also plans to conduct Hanwoo genetic testing to prevent the illegal distribution of Korean native cattle and imported beef.
This intensive crackdown, carried out jointly by the county's special judicial police team, Chungnam Province, and city and county authorities, will organize cross-inspection teams to inspect and monitor businesses handling livestock products, such as meat packaging and processing companies, meat retailers, and suppliers for elementary, middle, and high school meal services within the county.
The main focus of the inspection will be on the hygiene status of businesses handling livestock products, compliance with distribution standards, proper country of origin and livestock product labeling, whether there are false or missing labels or non-compliance with storage standards, use of products past their consumption date, and overall adherence to livestock product distribution regulations.
In addition, in cooperation with the Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory and the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Institute, genetic testing will be conducted to determine whether there are false country of origin labels or violations of the livestock product traceability system.
Kim Hyunki, head of the county’s Safety Management Division, stated, "Through this special crackdown, we will prevent the illegal distribution of livestock products and, by conducting Hanwoo genetic testing, secure order and transparency in the beef distribution market. We will do our utmost to ensure that safe and hygienic livestock products, which residents can trust, are supplied."
