The election campaign committee of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential primary candidate, has filed complaints against YouTubers who spread false information through deepfake videos related to the candidate.
Members of the camp of former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, a preliminary presidential candidate, filed a complaint on the 16th at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Civil Complaints Office against YouTubers suspected of distributing deepfake videos of Lee, accusing them of violating the Public Official Election Act. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the morning of the 16th that they have received the campaign committee's complaint and are reviewing the case assignment.
Earlier, the campaign committee stated in a notice the previous day, "We will file a total of 14 complaints against YouTubers who distribute deepfake videos," adding, "Despite warnings against the dissemination of false and manipulated information, we have confirmed that false information containing defamatory content against the candidate, created maliciously through deepfake videos, continues to be spread."
