155 Billion KRW Invested Until June Next Year for Eco-Friendly Prevention Facilities
Up to 90% of Installation Costs Supported for 45 Workplaces
Gyeonggi-do Ansan City is promoting a white smoke reduction project in the Banwol Dyeing Complex, which has raised concerns about air pollution.
On the 16th, Ansan City announced that it recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ansan Green Environment Support Center to launch the "Banwol Dyeing Complex White Smoke Reduction Improvement Project," investing 15.5 billion KRW to actively proceed with the project.
The reduction project targets textile and dyeing industry workplaces within the Banwol Dyeing Complex. Structural improvements and technical support for efficient white smoke reduction are the core focus.
The Ansan Green Environment Support Center, which signed the agreement with the city, was established in 2000 by designation of the Ministry of Environment and has conducted 164 environmental research projects over 20 years, solving regional environmental issues through technical support for 2,196 companies.
The agreement includes ▲ mutual cooperation for systematic project promotion ▲ replacement of outdated prevention facilities with white smoke reduction verification facilities using electrostatic precipitator and composite oil filter methods ▲ post-management of facilities and operation of a management committee.
This project is being promoted as part of the special air improvement measures for the Siwha District. Previously, from 2018 to 2020, the city conducted the first improvement project on 17 facilities. The city explained that the first project achieved effects such as ▲ 55% reduction in composite odor ▲ 93% decrease in combustible component emissions.
Through this second project, the city plans to improve an additional 45 facilities. The project period is until June next year. The city intends to replace the existing prevention facilities of the target workplaces with environmentally friendly verification facilities. Participating workplaces will receive support covering up to 90% of installation costs, up to 540 million KRW.
Lee Min-geun, mayor of Ansan City, said, "The white smoke emitted from the dyeing complex is a problem directly related to citizens' health and the urban environment," adding, "We will create a clean air environment and achieve sustainable growth of the industrial complex through proactive and scientific reduction measures."
