Busan City to Promote Lifelong Education Support Project... Selected in Ministry of Education Contest

One Consortium and Two Local Governments Secure Approximately 100 Million KRW in National Funding

Busan City has been selected for the Ministry of Education's Lifelong Education Activation Support Project and will conduct a variety of regionally connected educational programs.

Busan City (Mayor Park Hyungjun) announced on the 16th that one consortium and two basic local governments were selected for the Ministry of Education's 2025 Regional Lifelong Education Activation Support Project, securing approximately 100 million KRW in national funding.

The Regional Lifelong Education Activation Support Project is a program that supports the establishment of a lifelong learning system so that residents can receive lifelong education anytime and anywhere. This time, Busan City was selected in the field of specialization support for existing lifelong learning cities.

In the 'Lifelong Learning Intensive Promotion District' category, the city and 11 districts/counties (Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Dong-gu, Yeongdo-gu, Dongnae-gu, Buk-gu, Saha-gu, Geumjeong-gu, Suyeong-gu, Sasang-gu, and Gijang-gun), along with the Busan Women's Family and Lifelong Education Promotion Institute (Yeopyeongwon), were selected as a consortium and secured 50 million KRW in national funding.

In the 'Regional Specialized Program (Lifelong Learning City)' category, two districts (Nam-gu with 27 million KRW, and Yeonje-gu with 30 million KRW) were selected, securing a total of 57 million KRW in national funding.

The Lifelong Learning Intensive Promotion District project, being implemented for the first time this year, is a project type that establishes a consortium system among provincial lifelong education promotion institutes (metropolitan), lifelong learning cities (basic), and regional universities and companies (lifelong education-related organizations) to reduce disparities in lifelong education infrastructure between regions. The city, together with Yeopyeongwon, 11 districts/counties, regional universities, and local companies, will jointly carry out various projects.

Under the 'LA-LA LAnd Project: Dreaming of Tomorrow (work, one, il) for Busan Citizens,' the city plans to promote various detailed projects such as: ▲ Operate educational programs linking local industries, academia, and research for 'Learn (LA) My Work' ▲ Activate integrated networks to 'Connect (LA) My One' ▲ Support activities for 'Act (LA) for the Growth of Busan Citizens' Tomorrow (il)'.

In addition, Nam-gu and Yeonje-gu, selected in the regional specialized program category, will conduct various lifelong education programs tailored to their regions.

Nam-gu will establish a learning environment where anyone can utilize generative artificial intelligence (AI) and apply it to real life, promoting five projects including the 'BaeumOnPlus (On+) Lifelong Learning with AI Project,' which includes a generative AI learning coach training course.

At lifelong learning centers and centers, a 'Digital Literacy Academy' will be operated to bridge the digital divide among local residents, and a digital literacy volunteer group will be supported to assist with generative AI and online classes, thereby establishing a digital lifelong learning operation system.

Yeonje-gu will promote a total of 24 projects in nine areas under the 'Everyday IT, Digital Transformation (DX), Learning City Yeonje' project to build a digital lifelong learning ecosystem with over 1,000 participants. Starting in June, AI and digital mentors will be trained and assigned, and participants will be recruited for a digital challenge in which all generations can participate together.

Kim Guiok, Director of Youth-Industry-Academia Bureau of Busan City, said, "By establishing lifelong learning clusters among regional universities, companies, and communities, and operating region-specific specialized programs, we will expand practical lifelong learning opportunities for Busan citizens. We will actively promote lifelong learning in various fields so that citizens' voluntary participation and achievements can be linked to employment and entrepreneurship, creating economic ripple effects in the region."
