Gyeonggi-do's representative cultural and artistic policy, 'Artist Opportunity Income,' will be expanded to 28 cities and counties, and the number of eligible recipients will increase to 15,000.
Gyeonggi-do announced the plan to promote Artist Opportunity Income for this year, which includes these details, on the 15th and stated that recruitment of eligible recipients will begin this month.
Artist Opportunity Income was designed as fair compensation for the social value created by artistic activities, aiming to support artists' continuous creative work and to expand opportunities for residents to enjoy culture and arts in their daily lives.
This year, Gyeonggi-do will provide Artist Opportunity Income to eligible artists aged 19 and older with valid proof of artistic activity and whose individual income is at or below 120% of the median income, in 28 cities and counties excluding Yongin, Goyang, and Seongnam. The number of recipients has significantly increased from 10,298 last year to 15,028 this year.
After investigating possible overlapping benefits with income and artistic activity preparation funds, Gyeonggi-do will pay 1.5 million KRW in cash in two installments starting from June.
Additionally, to expand artists' opportunities and residents' access to culture and arts, from June, Gyeonggi-do will promote a permanent stage and festival for artists receiving opportunity income under the slogan "Opportunity becomes art. Culture becomes everyday."
Park Rae-hyeok, Director of the Gyeonggi-do Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, said, "Through Artist Opportunity Income, the social value created by artistic activities enhances the quality of cultural and artistic enjoyment for residents and contributes to establishing a foundation for artists' independence. We will do our best to ensure that more artists and residents can empathize with the purpose of the Artist Opportunity Income policy."
