Mokpo National University Seeks Solutions for National Core University Joint Issues

National and Public University Presidents' Council
Held at National Mokpo University for Two Days
Focusing on Cooperation and Future Directions in Higher Education

National Mokpo University (President Song Hacheol) announced on the 14th that it successfully hosted the "2025 1st National Core National and Public University Presidents' Council" for two days and one night starting from the 10th at the Jeongsangmuk Conference Room in the 70th Anniversary Hall of National Mokpo University.

The council meeting was attended by Song Hacheol, President of the National Core National and Public University Presidents' Council, presidents from 12 out of 19 member universities, Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, officials from the Ministry of Education's Regional Talent Policy Office, and other related organizations.

The National Core National and Public University Presidents' Council is an organization established under Article 10 of the Higher Education Act and consists of national and public universities across the country, excluding flagship national universities. Currently, 19 universities are members, including Gangneung-Wonju National University, Gyeongsang National University, Kongju National University, Kunsan National University, Kumoh National Institute of Technology, Mokpo National University, Mokpo National Maritime University, Pukyong National University, Sunchon National University, Changwon National University, Korea National University of Transportation, Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Hanbat National University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, University of Seoul, Hankyung National University, Korea National University of Education, Korea National Open University, and Korea National Sport University.

The meeting proceeded in the following order: ▲Opening remarks (Song Hacheol, President of the National Core National and Public University Presidents' Council) ▲Welcoming remarks (Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do) ▲Discussion of council agenda and current issues ▲Tour of university facilities such as MNU Square.

The participants engaged in in-depth discussions on concrete measures to enhance the competitiveness of national core national and public universities in response to changes in the higher education ecosystem, as well as to strengthen cooperation between universities and connections with local communities.

In his opening remarks, Song Hacheol stated, "We aim to share educational issues and challenges with university presidents and seek practical solutions," adding, "We will continue to contemplate the roles and future directions of national core national and public universities through cooperation among member universities and active exchanges with the local community."

National Mokpo University plans to use this council meeting as an opportunity to address common issues among national core national and public universities and contribute to shaping a new future for higher education.
