Investigating the Cause
At 12:55 p.m. on the 11th, a wildfire broke out in Maeju-ri, Seonghwan-eup, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungnam.
The Central Disaster Response Headquarters of the Korea Forest Service deployed seven fire trucks and 17 personnel, and managed to bring the main fire under control by 1:18 p.m., just 23 minutes after the fire started.
The forest authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the wildfire and the extent of the damage through an investigation and inspection team.
An official from the Korea Forest Service stated, "Due to the dry weather and strong winds in spring, even a small spark can lead to a large wildfire," and urged, "Please be thorough in managing any sources of ignition."
Meanwhile, a wildfire activity restriction administrative order has been in effect throughout Cheonan-si since the 7th. This order will remain in place until further notice, prohibiting entry into the mountains, burning, and smoking in areas adjacent to forests throughout the city.
