Mokpo Christian Hospital Introduces Robotic Surgery, Innovating Medical Services

First in the Southwestern Jeollanam-do Region to Perform Artificial Joint Surgery at a General Hospital
Patient-Centered Approach... Faster Recovery and Improved Quality of Life Expected

Mokpo Christian Hospital (Chief Director Kim Geunho) announced on the 11th that, in celebration of its 28th anniversary, it has introduced a robotic artificial joint surgery system, enabling local residents to receive advanced medical services without having to travel to the Seoul metropolitan area.

Mokpo Christian Hospital is the first general hospital in the southwestern region of Jeollanam-do to introduce the advanced robotic-assisted artificial joint surgery system, the 'CORI Robotic Surgery System,' and has begun performing full-scale surgeries using this technology.

With the introduction of this system, not only is the precision of artificial joint surgeries enhanced, but it also allows for treatments optimized for each individual patient, raising expectations for a significant advancement in the local medical standard.

Orthopedic surgeon Sung Joohyung stated, "Compared to conventional surgeries, robotic surgery allows for more precise bone cutting and accurate adjustment of the implant's position and angle, resulting in reduced postoperative pain, faster rehabilitation, and extended lifespan of the artificial joint. This surgical method is particularly advantageous for elderly patients or those with underlying conditions," he explained.

Utilizing 3D pre-planning technology, surgical plans are made based on the patient's anatomical information before surgery, and real-time sensors and navigation functions maximize accuracy during the procedure. This reduces unnecessary bone removal and helps ensure precise integration between the artificial joint and the patient's bone.

Chief Director Kim Geunho said, "We are very pleased that with the introduction of the robotic artificial joint surgery system, we have created an environment where local residents can access advanced medical services without traveling to the metropolitan area. Mokpo Christian Hospital will continue to do its utmost to protect the healthy lives of local residents by adopting advanced medical technologies and strengthening the capabilities of our medical staff."

The introduction of this robotic surgery system is one of the key strategies for realizing 'patient-centered precision medicine,' which Mokpo Christian Hospital pursues. The hospital has established an integrated system that connects precise preoperative diagnosis, real-time intraoperative feedback, and customized postoperative rehabilitation, thereby increasing patient satisfaction throughout the entire surgical process.

Starting with the introduction of this robotic surgery system, Mokpo Christian Hospital plans to expand the use of robotic surgery across the entire orthopedic field, including spine and sports injuries, in addition to artificial joints.

Meanwhile, as a regional hub general hospital, Mokpo Christian Hospital continues to make various efforts to improve community health based on a multidisciplinary collaborative system and the latest medical equipment.
