The development restriction on the site for the 'Suwon R&D Science Park' project in 484, Ipbuk-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi Province has been lifted.
Suwon City announced that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport conditionally approved the 'Suwon Urban Management Plan Decision (Amendment) on Partial Lifting of Development Restriction Zone' in December last year and officially announced the partial lifting of the development restriction zone on April 11 this year.
According to this announcement, Suwon City plans to complete the designation of the development zone and the establishment of the development plan within this year, obtain approval for the implementation plan, and begin construction in the first half of 2027. The target completion date is December 2028.
Suwon City aims to create an 'Advanced R&D Innovation Hub' by attracting cutting-edge research companies such as ▲R&D (Research & Development) ▲ICT (Information and Communication Technology) ▲Semiconductor ▲BT (Biotechnology) ▲NT (Nanotechnology) on a site of 352,600㎡, equivalent to 50 soccer fields, in the Ipbuk-dong area, creating over 4,000 quality jobs.
The Suwon R&D Science Park will include not only research and development office facilities but also public facilities such as public housing for researchers and employees, neighborhood living facilities, and neighborhood parks. The plan is to create a work-residence integrated environment where workplaces and residences are close.
Near the Suwon R&D Science Park are Sungkyunkwan University Natural Science Campus, a semiconductor-specialized university producing excellent research personnel, and the Tapdong Innovation Valley, which will begin construction in the second half of this year, fostering active industry-academia-research cooperation.
Accessibility is also excellent, with Sungkyunkwan University Station on National Railroad Line 1 located 1.2 km away, and Guun Station on the extended Shinbundang Line from Gwanggyo to Homaesil 1.4 km away. It is also a 5-minute drive from Dangsu and Geumgok interchanges on the Pyeongtaek-Paju Expressway.
Suwon City plans to create a 'ring-shaped advanced science innovation cluster' encircling Suwon by connecting key points such as Suwon R&D Science Park, Tapdong Innovation Valley, Buk Suwon Technovalley, Uman Technovalley, and Delta Plex.
Additionally, Suwon City is promoting the designation of the 'Suwon Economic Free Zone' covering 3.3㎢ (1 million pyeong) centered on Suwon R&D Science Park and Tapdong Innovation Valley to establish a Korean-style Silicon Valley. A campus town covering 1.65㎢ (500,000 pyeong) is also being promoted in cooperation with local universities.
Lee Jae-jun, Mayor of Suwon City, said, "The Suwon R&D Science Park will lead the innovation of western Suwon and serve as a new growth base for southern Gyeonggi beyond Suwon City. We will carry out the Suwon R&D Science Park project without delay to make Suwon an advanced scientific research city."
