Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province has prepared a variety of events to celebrate Library Day and Library Week in April, aiming to create a "Book-Reading Uljin."
From April 8th to the 16th (Tuesday and Wednesday), Uljin Geumgangsong Forest Jigwanseoga will hold a pre-opening special lecture titled "The Philosophy of Love and Happiness" at the county office's main conference room from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
This special lecture, featuring Dr. of Philosophy Pyeon Sangbeom, will cover five topics including "The Reason I Loved You" and "Happiness and Satisfaction of Desires." Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of reading through the depth of philosophy and vivid experiences. Partial attendance is possible, and anyone can participate.
On the 12th, Uljin Nambu Library will host a book talk with Sun Mihwa, author of "May My Awkward Comfort Reach You." Sun Mihwa will engage directly with participants in book discussions and drawing activities, providing "healing" and "inspiration."
On the same day, Bukuljin Library will offer a session to listen to the picture book story of "Crispy Seagull" by author Jeon Mingul.
At Uljin Library under the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education, a "Flower Dream" event will be held to celebrate "World Book Day," delivering touching moments with small flowers. In addition, a "Handmade Eco-friendly Low-Carbon Soap Making Experience" program will raise awareness of eco-friendly living, and an "Author Seo Jiwon Special Lecture" will immerse participants in the passion and inspiration of a young writer.
In particular, "Overdue Liberation Week" will provide an opportunity to encourage library use, and "Double Day" will double the number of books that can be borrowed, offering a special gift to users.
In Uljin, various programs such as exhibitions, experiences, and special lectures will be held at Bukuljin Library, Uljin Nambu Library, seven small libraries in towns and villages, and Uljin Library under the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education. Detailed schedules and information can be found on the website or by phone inquiry.
To revitalize libraries, Uljin County will sign a "KB Small Library Establishment Project Business Agreement" on the 14th and plans to remodel the existing small library.
On the 25th, the opening ceremony of Uljin Geumgangsong Forest Jigwanseoga will be held. The ceremony will feature lectures, performances, and a singing bowl meditation experience, providing enjoyment for local residents.
Additionally, the county plans to create a shared library by donating books to public institutions and multi-use facilities in the region through the book donation campaign "Please Donate Books!" The "Local Bookstore Book Price Refund Project" will also be implemented to encourage residents to use local bookstores and provide more opportunities for reading.
County Governor Son Byeongbok said, "I am very pleased to organize a variety of events to create a 'Book-Reading Uljin' in celebration of Library Day," adding, "I hope that through these events, residents will find joy in books and become even more fond of our libraries."
He also expressed his ambition, saying, "In the future, we will continue to develop libraries as a foundation for the lives of local residents and as a space for sharing knowledge and culture, spreading a reading culture, and creating a happy Uljin County through books."
