Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyungjun) will begin accepting applications for the Smart City Conference at the 'World Smart City Expo (WSCE) 2025', which will be jointly hosted for the first time by a local government in partnership with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Science and ICT, starting from the 10th.
The 'World Smart City Expo' is a leading smart city event in the Asia-Pacific region, launched in 2017 and celebrating its 9th edition this year. Each year, governments, cities, companies, experts, and citizens from around the world participate to seek solutions for sustainable cities and improved quality of life.
This year's Expo will be held at BEXCO for three days, from July 15 to 17.
This year, the Expo will introduce new innovative technologies and services in the smart city sector, support business opportunities for companies, and host a variety of conferences with participation from industry, academia, research institutes, and government.
In particular, to further promote knowledge sharing and cooperation in the smart city field, various smart city-related conferences will be held for organizations and groups in addition to those organized by the main hosting institutions.
Since 2022, the Expo has expanded its platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration by inviting proposals for smart city-related conferences, selecting about 5 to 10 each year and supporting their operation.
This year, about 10 conferences will be selected, and the chosen conferences will receive support for conference operations such as meeting room provision and promotional activities.
Applicants can select one of the four fields?Technology (Tech), Governance, Data, or Financing?and apply online via the official website by May 9.
Cities, companies, public institutions, research institutes, schools, academic societies, associations, and any other organizations or groups are eligible to participate in the call for proposals.
Further details can be found in the announcement posted on the official website or the Smart City Integrated Portal website starting from the 10th.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport held a competition among local governments nationwide last year to select the host city, aiming to make the Expo an event 'in partnership with cities' from this year, and Busan was ultimately chosen.
Accordingly, Busan Metropolitan City and BEXCO will newly participate as co-organizers of the event, and the city is planning various programs to ensure the successful hosting of the event and to allow domestic and international visitors to fully experience the appeal of Busan.
In addition, hosting the event in Busan is expected to effectively promote the Busan National Smart City Pilot Project, strengthen Busan's global status as a smart city, and serve as an opportunity to activate exchanges and cooperation among cities worldwide, centered on Busan.
Jung Nayoung, Director of the Future Technology Strategy Bureau of the city, said, "The World Smart City Expo is a venue for advanced technology and knowledge sharing, as well as a platform to expand exchanges and cooperation among smart city-related organizations. We hope to see many applications for this conference call," adding, "As this year marks the first local hosting, we ask for your great interest in the 'World Smart City Expo (WSCE)' jointly led by the city and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and in the leap forward for Busan."
