Authority in Well-Aging Research Including Centenarian Study Group

Chosun University (President Kim Chunseong) announced on the 8th that it has appointed Park Sangcheol, a globally renowned authority in well-aging research and Distinguished Research Professor at Chonnam National University, as an advisory committee member for its Glocal University initiative.
At the appointment ceremony and advisory meeting held in the president's office on the afternoon of the 7th, attendees included President Kim Chunseong, Planning Director Park Jongrak, Deputy Planning Director Kim Seonjung, G-LAMP Project Deputy Director Kim Seokjun, and Professor Kim Jeongsu from the Well-Aging Medicare Research Institute.
During the meeting, Professor Park provided multifaceted advice on Chosun University's vision as a well-aging specialized university, strategies for tailored education and research in the era of aging populations, and directions for nurturing talent and research collaboration in the well-aging field. He also presented practical development plans based on his world-class experience in aging research.
Recognized as the pioneer of centenarian research in Korea, Professor Park Sangcheol graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine and has made significant contributions to the advancement of longevity medicine since the 1990s by extensively exploring the causes and solutions of aging. He has served as Director of the Institute of Aging Society at Seoul National University, President of the International Association of Gerontology, Chair of the International Centenarian Consortium, and Director of the Well-Aging Research Center at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology. He is currently serving as Distinguished Research Professor at Chonnam National University.
For his contributions to aging research, Professor Park received the Moran Medal of the Order of Civil Merit and the Scientist of the Year Award, and has been featured in prominent international media such as TIME and National Geographic.
President Kim Chunseong of Chosun University stated, "It was highly meaningful to have an in-depth discussion on key issues with Professor Park Sangcheol, a world authority on well-aging, in an era where national and regional aging is accelerating," and added, "We will consolidate Chosun University's capabilities to become a well-aging specialized university and proactively establish an innovative model to address the challenges of an aging society."
