This briefing focused on projects directly related to the local economy and citizens' lives, such as stabilizing people’s livelihoods, expanding citizen convenience, establishing care systems for youth and children, and developing Hantangang tourism.
First, Pocheon City explained that it is accepting applications until April 15 for the ‘Gyeonggi-do Daily Recovery Support Fund (1 million KRW per person)’ and the ‘Pocheon City Disaster Basic Income (500,000 KRW per person)’ to aid residents affected by the Air Force fighter jet bombing accident that occurred in March. Applications are being accepted at five locations in the Idong-myeon area, and after the 8th, all applications will be centrally received at the Idong Small Library.
The ‘Pocheoncheon Blueway Construction Project’ to expand citizen leisure spaces was also introduced. The Pocheoncheon Blueway project aims to create a multipurpose waterfront plaza, water play area, pedestrian paths, and bicycle lanes along the Pocheoncheon stream to develop a resting space for citizens. The project budget is approximately 18.2 billion KRW, with completion targeted for 2026, and the detailed design service is currently underway.
The ‘Okjeong~Pocheon Metropolitan Railroad Construction Project,’ which will open Pocheon’s railway history, held a groundbreaking ceremony in March, marking the official start of the project. This project involves constructing a 17.1 km metropolitan railroad from Goyup-dong, Yangju, passing through the Okjeong district to Gunnae-myeon, Pocheon, with an opening goal set for 2030. Construction for Section 2 will begin in April, followed by Section 3 in June.
Additionally, the city announced plans to actively promote the ‘Deokjeong~Okjeong Line’ railroad project, which will complement the limitations of the ‘Okjeong~Pocheon Line.’ Once the ‘Deokjeong~Okjeong Line’ is established, it will connect with the GTX-C line, significantly improving accessibility to Seoul, which was previously insufficient.
Pocheon City is advancing as a city favorable for education. Since March, the city has operated the ‘Pocheon-type School Bus (Pochun Bus)’ and the ‘Smart Safe Shuttle (Pouri).’ The Pochun Bus is a school bus service for middle and high school students, operating two circular routes in the Soheul and Pocheon areas.
The Smart Safe Shuttle (Pouri) is an on-demand shuttle service for elementary school students. It is free of charge and is expected to increase satisfaction for both parents and students.
The ‘Pocheon Aebom 365’ program, aimed at eliminating care gaps, will begin operating in the Sineup area starting in April. It provides 24-hour, year-round care services for children aged 0 to 12 and is gaining attention as a new model of local welfare that addresses care blind spots.
In the tourism sector, the ‘2025 Pocheon Hantangang Global Geopark Garden Festa’ spring event was introduced. Held from May 3 to June 15, this festival will welcome tourists with various events such as seasonal flower gardens, flea markets, and food booths.
Moreover, the ‘Hantangang Comprehensive Development Project’ is accelerating to actively develop Hantangang tourism resources. Efforts are focused on transforming Pocheon’s Hantangang into a world-class tourist destination through projects including a performance camping cultural leisure complex, Hanyeoul zip rider experience tourism facility, weir installation, Hantangang Peace Garden, Hantangang Jungri waterfront garden, and Hantangang Boreum-ri area parking lot.
In connection with this, a new ‘Hantangang Tourism Zone Themed Hub Commercial Facility’ will be established. This themed neighborhood living facility, consisting of the Columnar Jointing Trail Visitor Center, tourism convenience facilities, and experiential education facilities, will cover a total floor area of 2,500㎡. It aims to extend tourists’ stay time and stimulate local consumption.
The ‘Hantangang Media Art Park Construction Project’ to expand nighttime stay-type content will also begin in earnest. It will introduce ICT-based media content such as the Hantangang Columnar Jointing Media Show, large mechanical (automata) sculptures, giant video projections (projection mapping), and a forest media safari utilizing the Columnar Jointing Trail forest exploration path.
The ‘Hantangang Global Geopark International Forum’ will be held for five days from October 11 to 15. Geopark officials from Korea, China, Japan, and other countries will visit Pocheon, further elevating Hantangang’s global status.
The ‘2025 Pocheon Hantangang World Drone Festival,’ held for four days from October 9, will be co-hosted with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The festival will feature a world drone light show, drone racing competitions, drone soccer tournaments, and a drone academic conference, combining Pocheon Hantangang’s beautiful natural canyons with cutting-edge drone technology.
In particular, Pocheon City is concentrating administrative efforts to designate a special development zone based on the advanced drone industry, and synergy effects with the special zone are also anticipated.
Choi Jong-gi, Director of the Population Growth Bureau, emphasized, “We are strategically managing city administration to encompass not only improving citizens’ quality of life but also Pocheon’s future industries and tourism,” adding, “We will thoroughly prepare to ensure that each project leads to tangible results by concentrating all administrative power.”
