Gongju City Launches Metaverse Platform 'Gongju World'

Introducing Gongju Tourist Attractions Including UNESCO World Heritage Sites and 5 Provinces 2 Villages

The city of Gongju, Chungnam Province, announced on the 8th that it will officially launch the operation of its non-face-to-face communication channel, the metaverse platform "Gongju World."

The metaverse platform development project was carried out for about seven months, from August last year to February this year, based on the "Research Service for the Establishment and Utilization of Metaverse" and the "Metaverse Gongju" project plan.

Gongju World is a digital space linked with the "Onnuri Gongju System," which has 230,000 members, and is freely accessible to anyone registered as an Onnuri Gongju citizen.

The platform consists of various contents, including: ▲ My Room content with Cyworld-style sensibility ▲ City PR Hall ▲ Metaverse of Gongju tourist attractions such as UNESCO World Heritage sites ▲ Introduction and experience content for 5 Provinces 2 Villages ▲ Metaverse Academy, and more.

In particular, by recreating representative local festivals of Gongju in the virtual space, such as the UNESCO World Heritage sites, Seokjangni Paleolithic Festival, and Baekje Cultural Festival, the platform provides users with a unique experience.

This is gaining attention as a new model for overcoming local extinction using metaverse technology, while effectively promoting the region's identity and culture.

The city will hold an open event to celebrate the launch of "Gongju World" until the 29th. During the event period, 300 participants who visit Gongju World and leave a supportive comment will be selected by lottery to receive prizes.

Yeom Seongbun, Director of Gongju City's Media Promotion Office, said, "The metaverse 'Gongju World' is a platform where you can vividly experience the charms of Gongju in a virtual space," and added, "Various benefits are available, such as using mileage earned through the chestnut cultivation game at 'Gomatnaru Market,' so we hope for the active interest and participation of citizens."

Meanwhile, the "Onnuri Gongju Citizen" system is a participatory program that allows anyone to register as a citizen online from anywhere in the country. Even without changing their resident registration, participants can enjoy benefits such as discounts at Onnuri Gongju affiliate stores, participation in Baekje cultural tours, and access to city administration and tourism information.
