National Funding for Lifelong Education Secured for Two Consecutive Years
Empowering Immigrant Women and the Elderly

Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju has been selected for a national contest project for two consecutive years with its practical digital education program for immigrant women and the elderly.

On the 8th, Gwangsan-gu announced that it had secured 40 million KRW in national funding after being selected for the “Support Project for the Activation of Local Lifelong Education.” This project, organized by the Ministry of Education, aims to discover and spread lifelong education models based on policies such as the Artificial Intelligence and Digital 30+ Project.

This year, Gwangsan-gu will implement two projects: the “Global Citizen Digital Competency Build-up Project” and “Naeil-i Bit Si Na.” The Build-up Project is an educational program designed to enhance the digital capabilities of immigrant women so they can develop expertise as instructors and continue their activities in the local community. Its key feature is “relationship-based education,” which not only transfers technical skills but also connects the lives of immigrants with cultural understanding in the community.

“Naeil-i Bit Si Na” is a digital education program for the elderly, jointly promoted by Gwangju City, five autonomous districts, and the Gwangju Talent Lifelong Education Promotion Agency. In this program, seniors plan and produce videos themselves, recording their everyday experiences. Through a performance-sharing event, they are given the opportunity to listen to others’ stories and share their own.

Park Byungkyu, the head of Gwangsan-gu, stated, “To respond to an aging society, we need more than just learning; we need connection with the local community. We will continue to support so that the skills learned can change the lives of residents and lead to active participation.”
