According to the city on the 8th, the “Powered Mobility Device Liability Insurance” is a system designed to protect vulnerable road users who must rely on powered devices in poor walking environments, and to reduce the burden for both users and victims in the event of an accident.

In 2020, the city became the first in the country to provide liability insurance for powered mobility devices to people with disabilities, and since last year, it has expanded coverage to include all citizens?a first nationwide.

This year, to further reduce the burden on citizens, the deductible has been lowered from 100,000 won to 50,000 won, and coverage benefits have been strengthened. All Jeonju citizens are automatically covered without any separate enrollment procedure.

The insurance covers liability for bodily injury and property damage to third parties that occur while operating powered mobility devices.

Specifically, it covers: ▲ direct injury to a pedestrian due to a collision ▲ indirect damage to others caused by the device pushing objects ▲ damage to others’ property such as parking barriers or elevators ▲ losses resulting from collisions with automobiles, among others.

However, injuries to the user themselves and damage to the device are not covered.

The coverage amount has been enhanced to a maximum of 50 million won per accident, with a reduced deductible of 50,000 won. There are no restrictions on the number of claims or the total coverage limit.

The city plans to conduct intensive promotional campaigns through police stations and social welfare facilities to ensure that every citizen can benefit from the program.

Insurance claims can be filed through a dedicated consultation center within three years of an accident. Once a claim is submitted, it will be reviewed and the insurance payment will be made accordingly.

Jin Kyohoon, Director of Welfare and Environment at the city, stated, “The city has been at the forefront of protecting vulnerable road users and ensuring mobility rights, and we will continue to make efforts so that more citizens can safely use powered mobility devices through practical policy support. Above all, we ask for your attention and consideration, such as removing obstacles from roads, to ensure safe use without accidents.”
