Comparative Analysis of Prognosis Differences Based on Gallbladder Cancer Location
Dankook University Hospital announced on the 7th that Professor Kim Gilhwan from the Department of Surgery has received the '2025 Doosan Yonkang Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Academic Award'.
This award was established by the Doosan Yonkang Foundation in 2023 to promote the development of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery in Korea and to encourage medical professionals' research efforts.
Professor Kim received the academic award for his research titled 'Impact of Longitudinal Location of Gallbladder Cancer on Long-term Outcomes After Surgery: Comparative Analysis of Fundus/Body and Neck/Cystic Duct, A Retrospective Multicenter Study (Corresponding author: Cho Sungho)'.
The research team revealed that prognosis varies greatly depending on the location of gallbladder cancer, and in particular, gallbladder cancer occurring in the neck or cystic duct requires extensive surgery.
Professor Kim explained, "There have been no previous large-scale studies on gallbladder cancer based on location in Korea, so large-scale research is needed," adding, "We conducted the study on patients who underwent gallbladder cancer surgery at seven hospitals in the central region since 2010."
