Muan County Governor Kim San Joins Population Awareness Campaign

2.65% Population Growth Rate Last Year... Ranked No. 1 Among Counties Nationwide
Customized Support Throughout the Life Cycle: Birth, Childcare, Care, and Education

Kim San, the governor of Muan County, participated in the "Relay Campaign for Improving Population Issues" jointly organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health and Welfare on the 7th, in response to the challenges of low birth rates and population decline, and to boost population vitality.

According to the county, this campaign began last October with the participation of Lee Kiil, the First Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, and has since seen the involvement of various organizations and groups. Governor Kim San received the baton from Lee Sangik, the governor of Hampyeong County.

During the campaign, Governor Kim San stated, "With the intention of preparing for the future of our region together, I decided to join this relay campaign," and added, "We will realize 'Muan, a great place to raise children' through population policies that all residents can truly feel."

Meanwhile, the county is implementing a phased policy to directly and indirectly support every child born and raised in Muan with over 120 million KRW until the age of 18. This is a leading initiative among local governments across the country, strengthening customized support measures throughout the life cycle, from birth to childcare and education, including birth allowances, childbirth incentives, childcare subsidies, and educational support.

As a result of these efforts, Muan County recorded a 2.65% population growth rate as of the end of December 2024 compared to the previous year, ranking first among county-level local governments nationwide and 13th among 226 basic local governments, achieving remarkable results amid the crisis of regional extinction.

Governor Kim designated Shin Woochul, the governor of Wando County, and Lee Byunghwan, the governor of Seongju County in Gyeongbuk, a sister city, as the next participants in the relay.
