The government has decided to grant long-term residency status to Indonesians who risked their lives to help evacuate residents during the wildfire in Uiseong, Gyeongbuk. It also announced plans to establish secondary damage prevention measures to prevent landslides in wildfire-affected areas during the upcoming rainy season.


Lee Han-kyung, Deputy Head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Wildfire Response (Director of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters, Ministry of the Interior and Safety), said, "We have decided to grant special contribution residency status to three Indonesian nationals who helped elderly women and others who had difficulty evacuating during this wildfire." He added, "We also express our deep gratitude to those who saved their neighbors' lives without regard for their own safety." Accordingly, the three Indonesian workers will receive F-2 status. The F-2 status can be granted by the Minister of Justice to individuals recognized for making special contributions to the Republic of Korea or for promoting public interest."

Deputy Lee stated that prevention measures will be established to prevent landslides in wildfire-affected areas. He said, "We will thoroughly prepare measures to address landslides and slope collapses in wildfire-affected areas before the rainy season arrives."


The Korea Forest Service will complete an emergency assessment of landslide-prone areas by the 12th and will carry out emergency restoration such as installing waterproof sheets by the end of June based on the results. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to form a task force (TF) composed of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korea Forest Service, local governments, and experts to develop joint measures among related ministries to minimize landslide disasters. The Ministry of Health and Welfare has established a plan to prioritize evacuation targets considering the condition of residents in elderly care facilities vulnerable to wildfire evacuation, and to secure facilities capable of accommodating all residents and transportation means in advance for prompt action.


Relief supplies provided to disaster victims, including emergency relief sets, blankets, daily necessities, and food and beverages, approached one million items. Psychological support was provided 8,542 times. As of the 4th, public donations collected through organizations such as the Disaster Relief Association amounted to 92.51 billion KRW. Support requests from disaster victims received at the Central Joint Support Center, which has been operating since the 27th of last month, totaled 1,723 cases. Among these, "facility and housing restoration" (484 cases) was the most common.


Restoration of broadcasting, telecommunications, and water and sewage facilities has been completed, and the power outage recovery rate reached 99.9%.
