[Yoon Suk-yeol Dismissal] Wando County Council: "A Historic Ruling Upholding the Constitution"

On the 4th, as the Constitutional Court delivered a decision to dismiss President Yoon Sukyeol in the impeachment trial, the Wando County Council in Jeollanam-do expressed strong support, calling it "a historic ruling that safeguarded constitutional order."

In an official statement released that day, the Wando County Council said, "This decision by the Constitutional Court is a historic ruling that once again proclaims the Republic of Korea as a nation governed by the rule of law. We actively welcome the firm legal judgment rendered against the unconstitutional declaration of martial law."

The council particularly criticized, "President Yoon's act of declaring martial law on December 3 last year, in direct violation of the Constitution and the principles of democracy, was a clear breach of the constitutional requirements for martial law. This was an anti-constitutional measure aimed at suspending the functions of the National Assembly and local councils."

They went on to say, "The acceptance of this impeachment is a victory for constitutional order and the realization of popular sovereignty, demonstrating that acts of violating the Constitution by the president can never be tolerated. All members of the National Assembly, local governments, and citizens must work together to ensure that such incidents are never repeated, taking this as a lesson for the future."

Kim Yanghun, chairperson of the council, stated, "This ruling by the Constitutional Court is a historic decision that solemnly and humbly reflects the will of the people. I hope that, with this ruling as a turning point, our society will move toward greater maturity and unity."

President Yoon Sukyeol lost his presidency following the Constitutional Court's dismissal decision on this day. The political landscape is expected to enter a period of turbulence, with major political events ahead, including an early presidential election.
